This month I read 14 books, ten of which heavily featured LGBT characters. This is more than my usual percentage, so I’m really happy it worked out that way.

Favorite Book: My Lady Jane! Clever and fresh and shippy and completely hilarious.
Least Favorite Book: A Fierce and Subtle Poison. Other than the beautiful writing, it just was not my thing at all.
Most Fun Book: My Lady Jane made me very happy.
Most Heartwarming Book: I’m going to have to go with Shira Glassman again.
Most Painful Book: I’ll Give You the Sun. I can see what people mean about it making them cry.
Most Surprising Book: ACOMAF, on so many different levels.
Characters of the Month: As I’ve already mentioned, Nate Foster is a cinnamon roll and must be protected at all costs. I felt a lot of things about Kate and August, both separately and together.
OTPs of the Month: Shulamit/Aviva and Kaveh/Farzin from the Mangoverse, both too precious for this world. Greta/Xie and Maria/Lily were good and heartbreaking.
Friendship of the Month: Kate and August from This Savage Song and Shulamit and Rivka from Mangoverse.
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: The Lies of Locke Lamora for real this time.

This month I read 6 books, 2 novellas. Basically I just binged read Air Awakens. That’s what I really did.

Favorite Book: Can I just chose the whole series of Air Awakens? Because like I read it so fast and hard I don’t even remember what plot points happened when. I just loved all of it.
Least Favorite Book: Bridge of Seven Sorrows. I was given this by my boss to understand the world of Age of Sigmar for work…But oh boy it was so far off from, well, everything I expect in a book that I couldn’t hardly wait for it to be over.
Most Fun Book: It’s just gonna be one of the Air Awaken’s books
Most Heartwarming Book: Ummm…Probably Fire Falling?
Most Painful Book: A Court of Thorns and Roses. Yes it was a reread, but also like how did I miss so many simple little things? Damn.
Most Surprising Book: The Kiss of Deception! I really enjoyed it, and I was surprised by a lot of the twists and turns.
Characters of the Month: Vhalla. That girl is so badass. I don’t know how to even begin with how great she is.
OTPs of the Month: Feyre/Ryhsand. Also Vhalla/Aldrik. (Oh look same as last month)
Friendship of the Month: Vhalla/Fitz. Those two are going to be the best.
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: I’m hoping to finish The Remnant Chronicles, and probably pick up a new series. Hopefully at least one arc so I can feel a part of ARC August.

The Diabolic  Nowhere But Here (Thunder Road, #1)

Kindred Spirits Crossing the Line (Pushing the Limits, #1.1) Air Awakens (Air Awakens, #1)

This month I read 13 books, two of which where rereads, and I would like to note that on my part, this wrap-up is late because tech rehearsal. Again.

Favorite Book: Not including Six of Crows (because reread), so definitely The Winner’s Kiss! Gorgeous writing, gorgeous relationship development, gorgeous everything. I cried a lot and Roshar is everything to me. That is all.
Least Favorite Book: Probably The Warrior Heir. It had some really interesting worldbuilding, but everything about the writing and characters and to extent plot was just so basic. I had really high expectations for this book, and I was disappointed.
Most Fun Book: Better Nate Than Never. Nate’s voice was really endearing, and as a grown-up theater kid I really enjoyed his reactions to various theater personalities. Lizzie’s banter with Connor in Last Will and Testament was also a lot of fun.
Most Heartwarming Book: The Winner’s Kiss. Even with the pain, the relationships between Kestrel and Arin and Roshar and Arin were just full of awwww.
Most Painful Book: Gathering Darkness. I will never forgive Morgan Rhodes for that Thing That Happened at the end, probably.
Most Surprising Book: Again, Gathering Darkness. One thing I’ve come to appreciate about Falling Kingdoms is that the last chapters are always filled with game-changers.
Characters of the Month: Kestrel Trajan is, of course, brilliant and complex and wonderful, and her strength in coming back from everything she went through in TWK made me love her even more. And have I mentioned how much I loved Roshar? Because I do. A lot. He’s snarky and knows who he is and his relationships with both Kestrel and Arin are precious. I’m starting to love a lot of the Falling Kingdoms characters, particularly Cleo, Magnus, Lucia, and Nic. (I’m not mentioning Six of Crows, but you all know how I feel about those kids.)
OTPs of the Month: Kestrel/Arin (thank you for actually communicating and being honest with and trusting each other! it made me ship you so much more!), and to a lesser extent Khalid/Shahrzad and Connor/Lizzie and Magnus/Cleo. (I’m not mentioning Six of Crows, but you all know how I feel about all the main ships.)
Friendship of the Month: Roshar and Arin are too precious for this world. Cleo and Lucia had a fascinating friendship before everything turned to shit. Nikolai and Pasha were my favorite part of TCG. (I’m not mentioning Six of Crows, but you all know how I feel about Nina and Inej.)
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: And I Darken, This Savage Song, The Lies of Locke Lamora

This month I read 6 books, 2 novellas, and started a new series that I really just can’t get enough of.

Favorite Book: You’re really gonna make me pick between Gemina and A Court of Mist and Fury. REALLY? WHAT IF I REFUSE??
Least Favorite Book: I don’t have one??? This is why I’m picky with what I pick up. Like I’m specific so I don’t wind up with books I won’t love and adore.
Most Fun Book: Kindered Spirits, a novella but still so cute.
Most Heartwarming Book: Nowhere But Here. I’m such a Katie McGarry stan anymore.
Most Painful Book: A Court of Mist and Fury, I mean it was good, really good but oh man.
Most Surprising Book: The Diabolic! I was expecting something that I could DNF easy or something after ACOMAF, but I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it!
Characters of the Month: Ryhsand. He surprised me so many different ways and whoops, fell in love.
OTPs of the Month: Feyre/Ryhsand. Also Vhalla/Aldrik.
Friendship of the Month: Kady/ADIAN. Leave me alone I love that little evil computer.
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: July is Make Me Read so I’m hoping to blast through a bunch of them. Starting with Kiss of Deception. But also I want to try and finish Air Awakens.

The Moth & the Flame (The Wrath & the Dawn, #0.25)  Soldier (Talon, #3) Stalking Jack the Ripper Snow White: A Graphic Novel

This month I read 17 books and 2 novellas, and I feel pretty good about everything I read, especially since a lot of it was outside of my usual genre preference.

Favorite Book: Defying Doomsday. A really interesting premise with varied, enthralling short stories.
Least Favorite Book: Time Between Us. I expected a time travel novel to have much higher stakes; as it was, I was just bored.
Most Fun Book: The Trials of Apollo. I will never get tired of Rick Riordan’s writing, ever.
Most Heartwarming Book: Run. Girl friendship, always. The end of For Darkness Shows the Stars also made me super happy.
Most Painful Book: An Ember in the Ashes. Even on rereading, that third trial was just too much.
Most Surprising Book: Dread Locks. Incredibly scary and twisty.
Characters of the Month:  Charlotte (the perfect modern Sherlock adaptation; extraordinary but stil so human), Bo (my daughter who I will protect), Amanda (my other daughter who I will protect), Apollo (what a loser I love him)
OTPs of the Month: Jamie/Charlotte, Aly/Zed, and Kai/Elliot all make my heart really happy.
Friendship of the Month: Bo and Agnes, Apollo and Meg, Lily and Rose
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: THE WINNER’S KISS (for real this time), The Lies of Locke Lamora (also for real this time)

This month I read 8 books, 1 Graphic Novel and 1 Novella. I was on a roll my friends! Not to mention I got completely hooked on Katie McGarry.

Favorite Book: This isn’t fair I read so many great ones ugh. Um… I think I’m gonna have to go with Crash Into You, it barely squeezed past The Fixer, but like I just really ship them.
Least Favorite Book: Snow White: A Graphic Novel. It had SO MUCH potential but ultimately fell flat.
Most Fun Book: The Trials of Apollo. Good god I haven’t laughed so hard in such a long time.
Most Heartwarming Book: Soldier. Really it was such a calm, easy reading experience I was happy.
Most Painful Book: Dare You To. I knew it’d be fine in the end but, UGH I didn’t want Beth to keep running.
Most Surprising Book: The Fixer/The Long Game! I was not expecting such an intense ride! I was expecting something much, much simpler. But I have to say I really loved it. I really need that third book to be a thing too!
Characters of the Month: All of Katie McGarry’s characters. They’re wonderful, they’re so well written and just wow I love this author and I’m now reading everything.
OTPs of the Month: Isaiah/Rachel. Ryan/Beth. Ember/Garret.
Friendship of the Month: So the friendship went through hell and is just now getting back on it’s feet but Isiah/Beth they’re good for each other as friends.
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: The rest of Katie McGarry’s work, along with several of the ARCs I’m SUPER excited for!

Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, #1)

This month I read 10 books, which is less than usual, but that’s okay, because nearly all the books I read were great! That said, one of them is The Raven King, so I don’t know how much variety you’ll find in my upcoming responses.

I would also like to note that a large portion of the books I read this month had excellent portrayals of mental illness.

Favorite Book: The Raven King. Duh.
Least Favorite Book: Ivory and Bone. There wasn’t anything painfully wrong with it–I just found it very forgettable, and I don’t think the Pride and Prejudice elements were distinctive enough to work.
Most Fun Book: A Gathering of Shadows. Kickass magic competitions, plus Lila Bard being Lila Bard. There were some painful/feelings-y moments, especially with Kell and Rhy, but as a whole this book was just so enjoyable!
Most Heartwarming Book: Without giving too much away, certain moments of The Raven King had me making very high pitched noises over how much the characters loved each other. Book of a Thousand Days is close as well–Shannon Hale’s books are like a warm hug in book form.
Most Painful Book: Shockingly, not The Raven King! (though that book had some gut-punching moments). The portrayal of depression and loneliness in We Are the Ants was the most painful for me to read about.
Most Surprising Book: THE RAVEN KING
Characters of the Month: Ronan and Adam from TRK (my beautiful children with their beautiful character arcs! I could scream forever about how far they’ve come since the first book), Denise from On the Edge of Gone, actual love of my life Lila Bard
OTPs of the Month: PYNCH PYNCH PYNCH PYNCH PYYYYYNCH (sorry, I swear I’ll calm down) (or at least pretend to)
Friendship of the Month: I’m honestly not sure I can choose between the Raven Cycle friendships! The five of them, really. Also, Kell and Rhy.
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: THE WINNER’S KISS, If I Was Your Girl, The Hidden Oracle, The Lies of Locke Lamora

This month I read 7 books, and now I’m going to be barreling through books here soon because thanks to TLA I have so many to read! I’m on a roll right now my friends.

Favorite Book: The Rose and the Dagger. You’re gonna see this book popping up a lot here on this BECAUSE OH MY GOD THIS BOOK GUYS IT WAS EVERYTHING AND MORE.
Least Favorite Book: None of the above? I dunno I really enjoyed what I read this month because I had so much to choose from I chose the best…
Most Fun Book: The Way to Game the Walk of Shame. The tropes were amazing, the characters were fun. I just had a lot of fun reading this book and I really really enjoyed it.
Most Heartwarming Book: Rereading the Raven Boys. Because those boys are my favorite.
Most Painful Book: The Rose and the Dagger. UGH. I was so scared and yet I loved it and yet it was painful
Most Surprising Book: The Sleeper and the Spindle! There were some twists at the end of that book that I never would’ve called and I really enjoyed the new twists and turns.
Characters of the Month: Stupid Raven Boys. Plus their stupid girl. Plus the stupid psychics of 300 Fox Way.
OTPs of the Month: Gansey/Blue. Khalid/Shahrzad.
Friendship of the Month: Gotta be Blue and Ronan. You can see their friendship starting in Raven Boys and UGHHH.
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: Probably finishing up Alanna’s adventure and hopefully the rest of Pushing the Limits.

Let’s do some stats, because stats are fun!

This month I read 13 books, give or take a few things I read for school that I didn’t record.

Favorite Book: Oh god, everything in my 5-star column. If I have to choose, it’ll be between Bands of Mourning and Far From You. I’m not sure I can narrow it down any further.
Least Favorite Book: This isn’t on the above list, but can I say New York by Gaslight by George Foster? I read it for class and it was overwritten and boring and redundant and enough about the prostitutes already!!! Of the books I listed here, Gena/Finn was the most disappointing but The Night Circus was the one I enjoyed reading least. (It wasn’t bad, mind you. The writing and setting were great! It just didn’t work for me.)
Most Fun Book: The Bands of Mourning! The group dynamics were spot on.
Most Heartwarming Book: Definitely Everything Leads to You–that last chapter was perfect. But the epilogue of Stars Above is very very close.
Most Painful Book: 1000% Far From You
Most Surprising Book: The ones by Brandon Sanderson, obviously.
Characters of the Month: Steris Harms from The Bands of Mourning, Sophie from Far From You, all the ladies from The Abyss Surrounds Us, and the protagonist of Secret History whose name I can’t reveal due to spoilers
OTPs of the Month: Cas/Swift (The Abyss Surrounds Us), Emi/Ava (Everything Leads to You), Mina/Sophie (Far From You), Wax/Steris (The Bands of Mourning), and all the Lunar Chronicles ships
Friendship of the Month: The entire Lunar Chronicles squad, Gena and Finn even if I wasn’t too happy with parts of their story
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: All the f/f books I didn’t get to this month, but particularly Otherbound and The Scorpion Rules. Also A Gathering of Shadows and Calamity!!! And I think The Winner’s Kiss comes out next month YES GIVE ME THE THING.

This month I read 7 books, give or take a few things I read for school that I didn’t record.

Least Favorite Book: Sadly gonna have to be the Percy Jackson Ultimate Guide, it just didn’t have the same sparkle as the rest of the books.
Most Heartwarming Book: STARS ABOVE.
Most Painful Book: The Lost Hero. Precious Annabeth.
Most Surprising Book: Umm… I kinda knew the cliffhanger in Mark of Athena otherwise it would’ve been that one.
OTPs of the Month: See above answer. But also add in Percy/Annabeth. Because I’ve become shipping trash for them.
Friendship of the Month: Oh lookie there, LUNAR CHRONICLES AGAIN.
Book I’ll Try Really Hard to Get to Next Month: I’m gonna finish up The Heroes of Olympus, and hopefully re-read the Winner’s Trilogy in expectation of The Winner’s Kiss coming out!

My ratings skewed lower than usual this month! I don’t know how much has to do with my choice of material, and how much I’ve just reconfigured what makes a book 3 stars, 4 stars, etc. I might be making a “how I rate books” post sometime in my future to reflect on what ratings mean to me and how my reviewing/rating style has changed over the years. (For the record, I genuinely enjoyed everything I rated 3+ stars, and even some parts of the books with lower ratings. (Yes, even the one I DNF’d.

November 2015 Monthly Wrap-Up

You’d think tech week would be a time when I got absolutely no reading done, but I was working on a fairly tech-light show, so I spent a whole lot of time sitting backstage reading on my phone. I got A LOT of reading done; I’m actually pretty impressed with myself.

Also, the theme for this month was supposed to be retellings, but everything changed when Brandon Sanderson attacked.

October 2015 Monthly Wrap-Up

The thing about being an assistant stage manager during the first few weeks of rehearsal when there’s not much for you to do is that you have a lot of time to read and absolutely no time to write reviews, which is why I’ve been a bit slow this month, but I’ve done a lot of reading that I really enjoyed, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. (A book with an ♠ symbol next to it has an asexual character in it!)
