Let’s Do ARC August!

Hosted by Read, Sleep, Repeat

We just found out that Read, Sleep, Repeat is hosting ARC August, which is basically an opportunity to get through our ARCs (both physical and netgalley) and blog about it. I got a whole bunch of ARCs at ALA back in June, and I know Sondra has quite a few as well from TXLA, so we are definitely planning on participating. I start classes and work in late August and won’t be able to get through twenty books a month like I’ve been doing lately, so it’s super important to me that I read as much as possible while I still can. I’ve actually already read one ARC this month (Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson, which I LOVED) and I’m going to try to get through nine more.

My ARC Goals
(note: these may be subject to change depending on the mood I’m in)

1) The Rose Society by Marie Lu
I honestly can’t believe I’ve had The Rose Society this long and NOT read it. Adelina is a wonderfully fascinating character and I can’t wait to watch her grow progressively darker. I’m also already in love with Maeve just from the five minutes we saw her in The Young Elites, so I really want more of her.

2) Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
See above re: HOW HAVE I NOT READ IT YET??? A fantasy heist novel with an ensemble cast of complicated characters, yes, I want this thing.

3) George by Alex Gino
It looks short and easy to read, and the main character is a transgender girl in elementary school, which sounds pretty great.

4) A Little in Love by Susan Fletcher
I’ll be honest–I’m kind of scared to read this one. I take my Les Miserables seriously, and I’m going to be very upset if it doesn’t live up to my expectations. But I’m just curious enough about it that I have to try.

5) Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
There was a point in the last couple of weeks when my twitter feed was just a collection of people screaming about this book.

6) The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
I’m even more excited for this one now that I’ve read and loved A Monster Calls. MAKE ME CRY, PATRICK NESS. THIS TIME I’LL BE READY.

7) Violent Ends edited by Shaun David Hutchinson
I think this is an anthology about a school shooting, with chapters by some of my favorite authors (Neal Shusterman! Hannah Moskowitz! Courtney Summers!) and it looks intense and excellent.

8) Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
I’ve heard a lot of good things about this one, and I’ve read the first chapter and I really like the writing. Let’s see how accurate the hype is!

9) The Anatomy of Curiosity by Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton, and Brenna Yovanoff
It has Maggie’s name on it, so of course I want to read it! It’s also apparently writing advice given through actual stories, which I think is super cool.

I’d been on the fence about joining ARC August so when Polina messaged me I grudgingly jumped in. I want to get through some ARCs that I have piling up, my biggest problem is that I’m a serious mood reader and books that look AMAZING right now might not look that great down the road. But we’ll see! I’m aiming for five books this month (Five books a month is pretty typical for me, and with my sister having her tonsils out I’m sure I’ll have a little less or a little more time we’ll see.)

1) Bounce by Noelle August.
Slightly cheating but I finished this one this morning, but I DID start it in August! I just finished it already too.

2) Ash and Bramble by Sarah Prineas
I’m in a real retelling mood so for right now this one looks amazing, though I have a heard a few negative things about it my fingers are crossed!

3) Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman
I’m on the street team for this one and I’m super excited to get a review of this one up for y’all. But also I’m actually excited for a book totally out of my comfort zone.

4) Ice Like Fire by Sarah Raach
I LOVED  Snow Like Ashes, so I’m really hoping this one is as good!

5) Love Fortune and Other Disasters by Kimberly Karalius
I’ve been kinda in a contemporary kick, but we’ll see if this one is one that I actually get around to, it’s got a really adorable cover though.

If I DNF, or just loose the mood for one of these I also have:

Soundless by Richelle Mead
Black Widow: Forever Red by Margaret Stohl

Those are deck for me to possibly jump to instead.
