TTT

This weeks theme is: Books I Enjoyed Recently (last yearish) That Weren’t My Typical Genre/Type of Book (or that was out of your comfort zone)

Alright so thanks to life and college Polina and I completely missed this last Tuesday. So y’know what? It’s our blog! Welcome to a very special Top Ten Friday!

Sondra

I’ve only got six this time guys. I’m so PICKY about what I read that stepping out of my comfort zone doesn’t happen very often. It’s something I need to work on as I go forward but for now here’s these six from the last year.

Ms-MarvelThe Lightning Theif

Boomerang March-Book-ONe

Uprooted Pride-and-Prejudice

Polina

Not all of these are necessary out of my comfort zone, though some are, but they are all books I would likely not have picked up without something prompting me.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Settings!

TTT

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
This weeks theme is: Top Ten Historical Settings You Love/ Ten Historical Settings You’d Love To See or Top Futuristic Books You Love/Ten Futuristic Societies I’d Love To Read in Books

Sondra

So I’m not really someone who reads historical books, I try, but they’re just not my style! But futuristic? Oooh yes. I am however splitting this list into two five pieces, so first up:

Top Five Futuristic Societies I’d Love To Read In Books!

  1. A futuristic space society, that’s normal. Like give me a contemporary romance but WHOA THEY LIVE IN SPACE.
  2. Give me a story of a girl who lives on a ship like the enterprise. A YA Star Trek basically, like there’s always problems going down, the parents are gone and it’s up to the kids to run the ship and keep everyone alive.
  3. GIVE ME A YA STAR TREK, ACTUAL STAR TREK UNIVERSE. DOES THIS EXIST? IT SHOULD.
  4. A seriously technologically advanced world, one with actual working (and non-psychotic) AI’s, tell me any story you want in this world but let me have a spunky AI that’s like a great friend and trying to figure out the human world.
  5. If you haven’t guessed I want like stable futuristic societies. I’m all about the crazy out there ones but stable would be amazing.

Top Five Sci-Fi Books That I Love!

  1. The Lunar Chronicles
  2. Illuminae
  3. A Thousand Pieces of You
  4. Under The Never Sky
  5. Magonia (This one I actually haven’t read yet, it’s on my TBR for this month, but I’ve heard great things about it so I’m decently okay putting this here)

Top Five Historical SettingsPolina

  1. Oregon Trail! (hello, elementary school flashbacks!)
  2. 1920s New York (so fun and vibrant to read!)
  3. this isn’t a concrete setting, but I like books that are sort of…in the background of major historical events, and touch on areas that maybe aren’t as prominently discussed
  4. anything to do with historical fantasy/sci-fi (it’s just such a fun combination)
  5. anything to do with Russian history (this one is mostly because I grew up on Russian fairy tales and they just have a vibe that works with me. I’m not sure I’ve ever actually read a book taking place in actual Russia, either, just fake Russia)

Top Five Historical Fiction Books

  1. The Diviners by Libba Bray
  2. Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson
  3. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
  4. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
  5. Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee
